Zion, IL (March 10, 2026) — Emergency personnel were dispatched to a serious two-vehicle collision on 21st Street in Zion on Monday, March 9. At approximately 12:24 p.m., responders arrived at the scene to find both vehicles with moderate damage and a utility pole knocked down as a result of the impact.

Medical teams provided on-site assessment for those involved, and a second ambulance was requested due to the number of injuries reported.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash.

We hope everyone affected by this accident makes a full and swift recovery.

What to Do If I Were Involved in a Parking Lot Accident in Illinois

If you were involved in a parking lot accident in Zion, your immediate priority should be securing a copy of the official police report and documenting the scene, including damage to vehicles and public property like utility poles. These steps establish a formal record essential for proving liability and securing compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and vehicle repairs under Illinois law.

Illinois operates under a "fault-based" insurance system, meaning the driver who caused the accident is legally responsible for the damages. If another driver was negligent, such as by speeding through a parking lane or failing to yield, they are liable for your losses.

You have the right to pursue a civil claim for both economic damages (medical bills, repairs) and non-economic damages (emotional distress, physical pain).

Under Illinois’s Modified Comparative Negligence rule, you can recover damages even if you were partially at fault, provided your share of the blame is 50% or less.

Your total recovery is reduced by your percentage of fault; for instance, if you are 20% responsible, you receive 80% of the total damages. However, if you are found 51% or more at fault, you are legally barred from recovering any compensation.

Because parking lot incidents often involve conflicting accounts, witness statements, and surveillance footage are critical pieces of evidence.

Finally, it is critical to adhere to the Illinois Statute of Limitations: generally two years for personal injury and five years for property damage. If the crash involved municipal property, such as a utility pole, additional notice requirements may apply.

A consultation with a professional early can help you avoid accepting a low-value settlement and ensure you do not inadvertently waive your right to full compensation.
