Riverwoods, IL – Three Injured, Including Child, After Rollover Crash at Lake Cook Rd
December 16, 2025

Riverwoods, IL (December 16, 2025) — On December 15, emergency crews responded to a serious multi-vehicle crash involving a rollover and entrapment at the intersection of Lake Cook Road and Saunders Road in the Riverwoods area. The collision involved three vehicles and resulted in multiple individuals being injured, including a child, prompting an urgent response from first responders.

According to the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire District, crews arrived on scene to find one vehicle rolled over with occupants trapped inside. Firefighters immediately established command and initiated extrication operations to safely remove the trapped individuals. Officials confirmed that a child and another person were inside the overturned vehicle at the time of the crash.

Command later reported that extrication efforts were successfully completed. A total of three victims were evaluated by paramedics at the scene for injuries. At this time, officials have not released further details regarding the extent of the injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish all those affected a full and steady recovery.

Rollover Crashes and Entrapment Risks In Lake County

Rollover crashes involving multiple vehicles are among the most dangerous types of traffic collisions, often resulting in serious injuries and complex rescue operations. Intersections like Lake Cook Road and Saunders Road are heavily traveled corridors, serving commuters, commercial vehicles, and families traveling between residential areas, business districts, and nearby highways. High traffic volumes, turning movements, and varying speed limits can significantly increase the risk of severe crashes.

When a vehicle rolls over, occupants face heightened dangers due to the violent forces involved. Even with seat belts and modern safety features, rollover crashes can lead to head injuries, spinal trauma, internal injuries, and fractures. The presence of a child in a rollover collision raises additional concerns, as younger occupants are particularly vulnerable to serious injury despite proper restraints.

Crashes that require extrication often indicate substantial vehicle damage. Firefighters and rescue crews must carefully remove occupants using specialized tools while minimizing further injury. These operations can take time and require coordination between fire departments, paramedics, and law enforcement to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Multi-vehicle crashes also present investigative challenges. Determining what caused a vehicle to overturn may involve examining roadway conditions, vehicle speeds, points of impact, driver actions, and whether distraction or failure to yield played a role. Weather, lighting conditions, and traffic congestion can further complicate crash reconstruction efforts.

For those injured in rollover or multi-vehicle crashes, the aftermath can be overwhelming. Victims may face emergency medical treatment, follow-up care, rehabilitation, and time away from work or school. Families often experience emotional distress while navigating insurance claims and uncertainty about recovery timelines.
