Mundelein, IL (February 10, 2026) – A major collision at a high-traffic Mundelein intersection left one driver with serious injuries and required an emergency extrication on Saturday, February 7. The Mundelein Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene at the junction of Route 45 and Route 176 at approximately 8:50 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a multi-vehicle wreck involving two SUVs and a van, all of which had sustained heavy damage. One occupant was found unconscious and pinned inside their vehicle. Recognizing the severity of the situation, commanders upgraded the call to a "vehicle crash with entrapment," bringing in additional specialized rescue equipment.

Firefighters utilized hydraulic tools to remove the driver’s side door of one vehicle, a process that took roughly 15 minutes. The victim was successfully extricated and rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious condition.

Two other people involved were evaluated at the scene; however, one refused hospital transport, and the other declined a medical evaluation entirely.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
