Grayslake, IL (February 3, 2026) – A two-vehicle collision on Monday, February 2, resulted in the death of a 19-year-old driver and left an elderly woman injured. Emergency units responded to the intersection of Washington Street and Atkinson Road at approximately 2:13 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving heavy damage.

Authorities state that a blue Toyota SUV was attempting to turn southbound onto Atkinson Road when it collided with a black Volkswagen. After the impact, the Volkswagen left the roadway and struck a traffic light pole on the southeast corner of the intersection.

Emergency personnel moved the 19-year-old driver of the Volkswagen to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

An 86-year-old woman involved in the accident was also transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials noted that her injuries were not considered life-threatening. 

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
