Lake Forest, IL - Rollover Crash on Rt 41 Leaves Three Hurt

Lake Forest, IL (May 29, 2025) – Early Tuesday morning, a violent car rollover crash unfolded along Route 41 in Lake Forest, leaving three people hospitalized with serious injuries.
The incident happened on May 27, just north of East Deerpath Road in the northbound lanes of Route 41. Authorities say the crash involved a silver Mazda traveling northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the driver veered off the roadway after crossing Deerpath Road. The vehicle rolled over shortly afterward.
One of the occupants was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, while the other two had to be rescued from inside by Lake Forest firefighters. All three victims sustained significant injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
Police responded quickly, and northbound lanes of Route 41 were shut down at Route 60 around 5 a.m. as crews worked to clear the scene and begin their investigation. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is aiding in the investigation alongside Lake Forest police.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
Rollover Accidents in Illinois
Rollover accidents are among the most dangerous types of vehicle crashes in Illinois. According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation, rollover crashes account for a high percentage of serious injuries and fatalities each year. Factors like speed, alcohol, and loss of vehicle control are commonly cited in these incidents. Victims often suffer long-lasting injuries that require extended medical care and rehabilitation.
Accidents like this highlight the serious risks and consequences associated with rollover collisions. Below are several potential outcomes victims might face after these types of crashes:
-
Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): The violent motion of a rollover can cause occupants to hit their heads inside the vehicle or be ejected, leading to traumatic brain injuries. These injuries can range from mild concussions to severe, life-altering impairments.
-
Spinal Cord Damage: The stress and impact from rolling vehicles can easily damage the spine, potentially leading to paralysis. Victims with spinal cord injuries often require lifelong medical care, mobility aids, and lifestyle adjustments.
-
Fractures and Broken Bones: Rollover accidents frequently result in broken ribs, arms, legs, and other bones. These injuries may need surgeries, physical therapy, and months of recovery time, affecting work and family life.
-
Internal Organ Injuries: Internal bleeding and organ damage are common due to blunt force trauma during rollovers. These conditions can be life-threatening and may not be immediately apparent without a thorough medical evaluation.
-
Psychological Trauma: Survivors often experience lasting emotional distress, including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Mental health support is often necessary to help them cope with the aftermath.
