Lake Forest, IL (August 11, 2026) – One person lost their life, and another was hospitalized on Sunday night, August 9, following a residential structure fire in the 1200 block of Griffith Road. First responders arrived at the scene around 12:02 a.m. to find flames visible from a first-floor window.

Two residents were inside the home when the blaze broke out. One occupant escaped the flames by leaping from a second-story window to safety. Emergency medical crews treated the jumper outside the home before transporting them in stable condition to Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital.

During primary search and suppression operations, firefighters discovered a second occupant deceased inside the home. 

The cause and exact origin of the fire remain under investigation by local authorities.
